The Human Race.

Chiara Abel  Mr. Roddy IHSS  April 19, 2022 Andrew Carnegie      Andrew Carnegie was a Scottish-American philanthropist who led the expansion of the steel industry in America. When Andrew Carnegie was in Scotland his family lived in modest circumstances, his father was a handloom weaver, and his mother did seeing work for local shoemakers. Eventually, his family uprooted their life and came to America in search of better opportunities. Andrew Carnegie's first job was as a bobbin boy at a cotton factory. Later, he was working at the Pennsylvania Railroad company where he took over his boss' position and became the railroad division superintendent. Native American Writing Response Blog

One theme I saw in most of the readings was the importance of books and the knowledge that they possess, and how they’ve influenced Native American culture. Sherman Alexie talks about how he and his classmates were expected to fail as Indians in a non-Indian world and were directed towards failure in school because of expectations set for them. He explains that he read books every night after school, and learned more than he ever could from a biased school system by putting in the effort to indulge in literature. He was able to rise above his classmates and the expectations and even write his own books one day, in the hopes to do what books did for him as a child for other children around the world. Near the end of his writing, he talks about how some students refused to read books when he tried to explain how important they are to them, which made him upset as he knew they were being denied knowledge.  The sermon preached by Samson Occom for Moses Paul serves as another exam...

Max Barger Mr. Roddy IHSS 23 January 2022 The Colorado River Crisis               The Colorado River has been becoming concerningly dry. This river hydrates over 40 million people, therefore the drought of the almost 2,000-mile-long river, can be extremely dangerous for so many reasons. This past summer it got extremely low, and scientists began tracking it to hopefully make room for a better future. Over half the shortage in water is simply due to climate change, which is sadly at this point close to irreversible. Climate change has been the originating cause of a ginormous drought over Colorado and the Mid-West. Not only will the declination of water in the Colorado River bear heavily towards the surrounding states, but evidently all of America. Climate change was the original cause of many of the topics we discussed in class; Trash Clean-up, Fresh Food Quality, The Price of Trees, and numerous other devastating topics.
