Ethnographer story

In the year 2500 I arrived on mars nervous yet excited of the journey ahead of me. I was there to study the Martiens first spotted 50 years scavenging the surface of Mars and have only been seen a few times since then. The arrival to the plant at first seemed like a waste of time as no Martins could be seen, but things quickly changed as I was ambushed and taken to their home. As I spent a month rotting away in their cell I tried each day to communicate with them and tell them of my purpose on their planet. The month was long and cold as the surface of Mars is around -80 degrees fahrenheit. While it was cold I had realized we were underground which explained the warmer temperatures. Nearing the end of the month since my capture I was approached by one of the leaders of the mars people, a male named Kalmore. Kalmore was one of the few Martians that was willing to give me a chance. I was able to convince him, through difficult communication, that my purpose on Mars was not to bring harm but rather to learn of their species and life and he accepted my request.

Through my time on Mars I learned of their religion, biology, physiology, history, and society. The Martians I estimated to be 7 feet tall with a similar figure to the human body, however their skin was a brownish red that was adapted through thousands of years on the desert-like planet. The temperature had no effect on the Martians as they had adapted, however it did cause me a few problems but that is beside the point. Due to the cold nature of their environment the Martians shared that their biggest weakness was heat and even worse fire. While their bodys are durable they had a very difficult time surviving in high heats. The people of Mars did not live with a government after their past society was destroyed through political rivalries and the Martians scattered. A majority went underground which they found to be filled with an abundance of useful resources and foods that they could survive on while others continued to scavenge the surface land. While Martians are vulnerable to fire they would pray to a fire god known as Kalasten meaning Fire Prince. They pray to Kalasten to protect them from fire or any heat that may hurt them. Due to the remarkable physiology of the Martians including their remarkable strength, size and speed they are able to acquire the necessary resources and food that they need very easily. Their remarkable physical abilities also allows them to fend off dangerous animals much easier. After spending 5 years on Mars exploring their society, religion, and language and documenting their free and peaceful lives I realized it was time to return home to inform Earth that the Mars people are good creatures and not to be seen as a threat. This journey served its purpose exactly as it was meant to do. It was to learn of the other creatures that roam our galaxy and how we can befriend them and work alongside them in the future.
