Crystal Healing Practices in Different Cultures
The idea that different crystals could help us succeed and heal our spirits and minds first originated in India, Ancient Egypt, and Mesopotamia, Ancient Rome, and Ancient Greece. It is an alternative medical approach. Its use is to heal the body physically and mentally. The idea is that the crystals channel healing abilities, that fill the body with positive healing energy which expel negative and diseased energy. Crystal use is an ancient practice but has recently become popular in the new age. The philosophy and practice of new-age crystal use are most similar to Asian culture, particularly the Chinese conceptualization of life energy (chi/qi). Chi or spelled as Qi is the belief system that energy runs through all human beings, connecting mind, body, and spirit. This belief system is also practiced in Native American culture. New age crystal practice is also connected with Hindu or Buddhism concepts of Chakras. Chakras are energy points across the body. They are believed to correspond with nerves, organs, and affect our mental and physical well-being. With these beliefs, the crystals are said to connect the supernatural and the metaphysical elements of our bodies. Different crystals have different uses. For example, Amethyst can be used to help our immune system, and as well as to protect our mental and physical health. Green aventurine helps the physical heart, while rose quartz heals our emotional hearts and brings us love and peace in our life. Yellow topaz brings us mental clarity and eradicates negative and evil things around us. Yellow topaz can also benefit people with mental health issues, for example, it can bring relief from depression and anxiety. I think all of these beliefs are very interesting and need to be respected. While people may find crystal use fascinating, they need to remember that it is a big part of a lot of cultures and isn’t something that you can just randomly mess around with.
