Franz Boas
Franz Boas was the founder of the culture history school. He was a German-born American. Boas was born on July 9, 1858, in Germany. At a very young age, he took interest in biology and different sciences. Books were a great part of his childhood because he was very ill as a child. He went to college in Minden where he was born. He enjoyed studying the history of culture which foreshadowed what he would be doing in the future. After a year of service in the German army, he continued his journey of studying. He went on to study many tribes and participated in a lot of fieldwork. When he came to New York he quickly found a job as an editor on a magazine. His teaching journey started at Clark University. After this, he went on many expeditions inside of America. He was equally a student and a teacher, always taking in and distributing information to students. He wrote a book that all human races were equal and the Nazis in Germany took away his degree and burned the book. He is very well remembered as one of the first anthropologists/ scientists to prove that all human races and cultures should be equal and are equal.
