history of sexuality
throughout the years, sex has been through it. it's been criminalized, celebrated, and just about everything in between. it was really interesting to learn about sex in a way i hadn't before. i had no idea that roman men were free to enjoy sex with other males without a "loss of masculinity or social status", as long as they took the dominant or penetrative role, or were on top. nowadays, so much as a compliment from one man to another is considered peak homosexuality. sex in today's culture is much more commonplace than it used to be, and the conversation is evolving a bit more in terms of respect for others, but there's still work to be done. whether or not it's heterosexual or homosexual, there's always work to be done moving forward on the subject. the contrast between ancient grecian and roman times and now is super different, though in some ways, pretty similar. the idea of straight and gay are slowly both becoming obscene with gen z, thus falling back to more dated grecian lifestyles with sex being more about the connection you make with the person, less than the connection with the gender. one common theme i saw throughout the article and further into my research, is that to the greeks and romans, someone who had same-sex sex was simply just a person who committed a sexual act. it did not define what type of person you were. this is definitely something i respect, and would for sure look more into in the future.
