1. How would you describe Jacob Walter's style of writing?  Remember that this is a diary.  Is this the sort of way you would write a diary?

It is very dramatic and it shows the situation with really well-placed mood and tone words. The writer portrays the desperateness of the situation really well through his writing. The parts that he chose to write about are really great for the story, using great words t0o describe what he was doing, with the tone of sadness it is really well done.

2.  What is a worry that Jacob shares?  What about his setting (physical, temporal, historical) makes this worry unique?  Can you see/feel the humanness in this worry?

He shared a worry about his being at the back of the herd of people, he was on horseback and he said that he was lucky because he saw people get mugged at the back of the line and he didn't want that to happen to him. He decided to stick to the front and to the middle so if someone was robbed he wouldn't because he was at the front and middle of the group. He expressed the worry at the start of the story, so you can tell that he was worried about it throughout the writings.

3.  What is a hardship that Jacob endures?  Provide a quote (first three words, last word, page number).  What stood out to you as interesting or difficult concerning this hardship?  Could you imagine yourself responding in the same way or differently?

He had to deal with the many things that he had brought with him as seen on the left middle side of page 5. He was starving and cold, as seen throughout the reading, he complains about the harsh conditions and how he was forced to deal with them. Having no supply drops by other soldiers was a plus because they had money provided but he didn't want to deal with the reality of having no food as well.

4.  What does Jacob reveal about the human need for camaraderie?  How do the violence and constant movement of the war influence what camaraderie looks like here?

He talked about having one comrade named Sch, and how Sch treated him more than himself, giving him the food that he needed to survive the night of page 6, left side.
